The role of the Project Designer is to design and estimate Storage Rack solutions through collaboration with Sales, Engineering, Manufacturing and outside partners. The Project Designer, under the direction of a structural engineer, will produce a comprehensive bill of material utilized to create a cost estimate, drawings and proposal that meets or exceeds our customer’s material handling and/or storage needs.
Under the direction of the Estimating Team Leader, the Project Designer is responsible for the timely delivery of a cost estimate, drawings and a proposal template that fosters the purchase of EP related products and/or services. After meeting with a sales person to review a customer’s requirements or Request for Quote (RFQ), the Project Designer selects standard EP components and/or receives direction from a structural engineer who advises the proper components to be used for the unique application. Utilizing appropriate configuration tools and in conjunction with the EP AS400 system (Jobscope), a bill of material is prepared. With this bill of material, the Project Designer prepares AutoCAD drawings and other documentation sufficient to solicit costing for non-EP produced material, transportation and installation services if required. All costs are assembled in the, Cost Estimate Spreadsheet and related project details into the Quote Template. In collaboration with the sales person, the Project Designer prepares appropriate AutoCAD proposal drawings. At the agreed upon time, the Project Designer delivers the Cost Estimate Spreadsheet, Quote Template and drawings to the sales person who completes the proposal and presents it to the customer. On occasions, the Project Designer may join the sales person for the sales presentation or may otherwise communicate directly with the customer to gain project insight or details. Upon the successful sale of the project, the Project Designer, along with the sales person, will participate in a Project Kick-off meeting to “hand off” important details and leadership for the project to the assigned Project Manager. The Project Designer will provide ongoing project support as required.
