Owen Steel is currently recruiting for an Estimator. Estimator is responsible and accountable to the Chief Estimator. Coordinates efforts with the Chief Estimator to insure bid data can be summarized to meet erector and or/customer needs. Prepares material estimates and calculates production man-hour required, compiles and submits specific technical questions in writing to clarify ambiguous or conflicting points in bid documents, solicits quotes and coordinates scope of work on specialty hardware, paint, detailing, freight, joists, deck miscellaneous metals, gratings, etc., summarizes all costs on budget, lump sum, or unit price estimate cost templates. Responsible for completing estimates in sufficient time to permit a thorough review by management prior to bid day.
The successful candidate should have an Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, Building Construction or similar training or experience. Experience in reading and interpreting architectural and structural drawings, specifications and shop drawings. Good spatial recognition skills (the ability to think in three dimensions and visualize how materials connect to each other) and recognize constructability problems.
